Closing Logo Group

Background: WIC Entertainment was the production and distribution arm of Western International Communications, a broadcasting company whose interests were, as the name implies, based in Western Canada. WIC was bought out by CanWest in 1999, with the majority of its stations switching to CanWest's Global Television Network; as of 2019, most of WIC's assets now belong to Corus Entertainment.

1st Logo

Logo: On a black and gray marble background is a giant silver "WIC" with a red compass inside the "C". Blue shadow effects appear underneath. Below that is "In Association With" in Souvenir font.

Variant: On Fatal Memories, it is an in-credit logo with "WESTERN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS" below and in a right-drop shadow with the initials at the right.

FX/SFX: None.

Music/Sounds: The closing theme to the TV movie.

Availability: Ultra rare. The standard version is seen on Christmas on Division Street.

2nd Logo

Logo: On a dark background with green and blue lights, we see the same silver "WIC" as before (albeit without a compass) with "Western International Communications Ltd." below.

Variant: One variant used as early as 1991 started with just the background visible (with the blue and green lights moving); the "WIC" letters zoom out into position, with the previous logo's compass symbol fading in within the "C", and the company name fading in at the same time (in a different font).

FX/SFX: None for the normal variant.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of any show, or else silence.

Availability: Seen on TekWar, Nineties prints of SCTV, and the TV movie Black Fox. The animated variant was seen on The Best of John Candy on SCTV.

3rd Logo

Nickname: "The WIC Clouds"

Logo: On a purple background with vivid clouds, we see the WIC logo next to the unfolding:

Variants: The text would vary on certain shows. One version replaced "WIC" with "WESTCOM" (a combination of "Western" and "Communications") while another featured a darker background and "WIC" set beneath the logo with "WESTERN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS LTD." beneath it.

FX/SFX: Moving clouds and unfolding letters.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of any show.

Availability: Seen on Emily of New Moon and the first season of Donkey Kong Country. The Westcom variant was seen on Nilus the Sandman, and the capital WIC variant was seen on Kleo: The Misfit Unicorn.

4th Logo
(March 7, 1997-April 2, 2002)

Nickname: "The Spotlights"

Logo: On a dark gray/orange background, we see lightmen preparing to turn on the spotlights. The spotlights are on, then they join together to create the same WIC logo from the previous logo with the words:

with WIC under the WIC logo and "ENTERTAINMENT LTD." under the platform.

  • Most shows produced by WIC, such as newscasts, have "TELEVISION LTD." instead of "ENTERTAINMENT LTD.".
  • In the Japanese dub of Donkey Kong Country, the logo is in-credit and animated in the custom ending theme.
  • On Mentors, the words "PREMIUM TELEVISION" appear below the WIC logo.

FX/SFX: The searchlights.

Music/Sounds: A triumphant orchestral tune. On some shows, the ending theme is played.

Availability: The "Entertainment" variant is seen on the second season of Donkey Kong Country on Teletoon, as well as on Higher Ground, later Emily of New Moon episodes, Total Recall 2070 and The Country Mouse and the City Mouse. The "Television" variant was seen on most shows produced by WIC Television-owned stations.
