Closing Logo Group

Background[]

Video Treasures was a budget video distribution company founded in 1985 by George Port. Initially distributing public domain films, the company ended up making licensing deals with Vestron Video, Hal Roach Studios, CST Entertainment, Media Home Entertainment, and Saban Entertainment among others. In 1994, Video Treasures was acquired by the Handleman Company and merged it with Starmaker. In 1995, Video Treasures and Starmaker became labels of the newly-formed Anchor Bay Entertainment.

1st Logo (1985-1988)[]

Nickname: "Video Treasures in Space"

Logo:

  • Opening: On a zooming space background, the Video Treasures logo (in white with a red line dividing the two words, elongated so that it's the same width as "TREASURES") zooms down from the top, and dips up to the center of the screen. The word "PRESENTS" wipes in below from the top.
  • Closing: Same as before, but "PRESENTS" is omitted.

FX/SFX: Typical '80s computer animation.

Music/Sounds: A snippet of a classical orchestra piece. None for the closing variant.

Availability: Rare. Appears on some releases of the era.

2nd Logo (1988-1998)[]

Nickname: "Migraine Marble"

Logo: A stone wall fades in, whose bricks have the "VIDEO TREASURES" logo carved on them. The logo is the underlined word "VIDEO" centered on top of "TREASURES", in which the horizontal line of the T is elongated to extend over the smaller "REASURES". The carved logo in the center brick fades into marble except for the underline under "VIDEO" which is red and zooms in towards the screen and shines. Finally, the stone wall background fades into a plain, blue-black gradient, and the white word "Presents" appears under "VIDEO TREASURES".

Variants:

  • There is a version of this logo that appears at the end of tapes that features the shining Video Treasures logo on the gradient background, but without "Presents".
    • On the Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends tape "Rusty to the Rescue and Other Stories", this variant is used at the beginning.
  • Sometimes, the logo is shortened.

FX/SFX: The name turning into marble and zooming, the background change to blue and "Presents" fading-in.

Music/Sounds: A chime and a long warbling synth note that is held until the logo fades out, performed on a Roland S-50 synthesizer. None for the closing variant.

Availability: Common. Appears on releases from the era.

  • This logo appears on budget versions recorded in SP, LP, or EP/SLP tape speeds of Media Home Entertainment releases of Fishing with Roland Martin.
  • Also seen on The Making of Killer Instinct.
  • Even though Anchor Bay's logos appear on the packaging of Video Treasures reprint titles from 1996-98, this logo is surprisingly preserved alongside their custom FBI warning and tracking reminder bumpers.

3rd Logo (1997)[]

Nickname: "Video Treasures in Space II"

Logo: On the same space background as the 1997 Anchor Bay Entertainment logo, the words "PRESENTS THE LIBRARY OF ANIMATED" and the Video Treasures logo fades in.

FX/SFX: The swinging, the fading.

Music/Sounds: Same as the 1997 Anchor Bay Entertainment logo.

Availability: Appears on Anchor Bay's Hercules.
