Background[]

Bob and Harvey Weinstein founded this independent production and distribution studio in 2005 after leaving the Disney-acquired Miramax Films that same year. From 2006 to late 2008, their films were theatrically distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, while they retain ownership for the home media prints. On October 8, 2017, Harvey Weinstein was fired from the company after dozens of sexual abuse charges were revealed. The company, already infamous for treating their films poorly, suffered a gigantic collapse thanks to the allegations and, after months of unsuccessfully attempting to have it or its library purchased by another company it was announced on February 26, 2018, the company announced it was pursuing Chapter 11 bankruptcy, a decision made final on March 9, 2018. In the meantime, the company sold off Paddington 2 and The Six Billion Dollar Men to Warner Bros. Pictures to acquire funds.

Visuals: On a black background, two lights from the bottom morph and form three lights from one light on top, forming an abstract "W". While that happens, the text "THE WEINSTEIN COMPANY" (in Engravers Gothic font) wipes in below it. Afterwards, the lights turn off one at a time. The text slowly fades out.

Variants:

  • At the beginning of Hoodwinked! and at the end of Igor, the logo is still.
  • Some films' closing credits have the logo in weirdly edited variation with plain text.
  • Some trailers and films such as Make It Happen, Bobby, and Silver Linings Playbook have the company's abbrievated name instead of the full one.
  • Arthur and the Invisibles has the logo squashed up.
  • At the beginning of Lee Daniels' The Butler, the "TWC" version is used, but fades out early (if you look very closely the bottom-right light turns off as usual).

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A calm string piece that fades out when the logo fades. This was composed by Nicole, daughter of Bob Weinstein. Otherwise, none or the opening theme of the film.

Audio Variants:

  • The U.S. release of The Magic Roundabout (Doogal) has a different orchestral tune with sparkling sounds composed by James L. Venable playing over the logo. This version's theme has some similarities to the music for the 1998 Image Entertainment logo.
  • On Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight (both directed by Quentin Tarantino), a different piece with light switch sounds is heard. This was also composed by Nicole Weinstein.

Availability: Was very common during the company's run, but due to plastering with the Lionsgate and Lantern Entertainment logos, nowadays its rare.

  • Appears on nearly all films from the company from Derailed to Tulip Fever.
  • This doesn't appear on Space Chimps and Hateship Loveship, which instead use in-credit notices.
  • Due to the Harvey Weinstein scandal, the company stopped releasing movies, and this logo has since been retired due to the allegations and the company's bankruptcy.
  • Even though it appeared on its theatrical release, it doesn't appear on the Lionsgate DVD release of Leap! for obvious reasons; in fact, it's not even mentioned at all on the DVD cover art.
