Sony Pictures DVD Center 1999-2008

Nickname: "The Rainbow Laser"

Logo: We start with a big flash, leaving light rays, and there are three colored lines coming together in the center. They hit the ground and leave, though we then see an image with a lighted spot on the ground, and three lines - red, green, blue - stand there and cast shadows. Fading in below is:

SONY PICTURES DVD CENTER

MASTERING THE ART OF TECHNOLOGY

Variant: Another variant has the name SONY PICTURES and DIGITAL AUTHORING CENTER. It was seen on the PAL DVDs of Stuart Little 3: Call of the Wild and Open Season, as well as a version of Walter Hill's Crossroads from an unknown region.

FX/SFX: The flash, and animation of the lines.

Music/Sounds: Various noisy sounds and whooshes ending with a very quiet crystal chime.

Availability: Very rare.

  • It can mainly be seen at the end of some Region 2 DVDs released by Columbia TriStar Home Video. Also seen on a few early Region 2 SPHE releases, such as the 2005 DVDs of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II.
  • In the US, the print logo appears on the DVD cover and label, but not on the DVD itself, although the proper logo appears at the end of the 1999-2001 R1 DVDs of Pink Floyd's The Wall (from CMV), Foolish, Animal Farm, The Limey, Arabian Nights (from Artisan Entertainment), The Tuskegee Airmen (from HBO), and the 2005 reissue of Pokémon: I Choose You! Pikachu (from Viz Video).
  • Surprisingly, this appears on Universal's R2 releases of Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park.
  • The Digital Authoring Center variant appears on later releases from SPHE, such as Stuart Little 3: Call of the Wild and Open Season.
  • Some Region 4 DVDs from Australia also include this logo, such as Stuart Little, Charlie's Angels (2000), Kermit's Swamp Years, and Buddy.
  • This was also seen on the 2017 Australian Shock Entertainment DVD reissue of The Craft, possibly because much of its contents were recycled from Columbia TriStar's 2002 Collector's Edition.
  • Some early DVDs, such as the 1999 Australian DVDs of Madeline, Cruel Intentions, and 8MM, have this play after you select "Play Movie".

Nickname: "The Rainbow Laser II"

FX/SFX: The fading.

Music/Sounds: None.

Availability: Ultra rare. This was seen on PAL DVDs of Cowboy and You Can't Take it with You, the 2001 R4 DVD of China Moon, and an Italian DVD of Shampoo.
