Background[]
Premiere was founded by Dr. Ciriaco Santiago, Santiago Adela Hermoso, Silvestre M. Punzalan, Ricardo Marcelino, Jose P. Osorio, Ricardo Balatbat and Generoso Santiago. Their first film was 1946's Probinsiyana, starring Carmen and Jose Padilla Jr.
They also made action films with social significance under the direction of Chat Gallardo, Ramon Estella, Alex Sunga and Gerardo de Leon.
Due to a workers' strike, Premiere went on hiatus from 1952-56. Consequently, other actors and directors associated with the company moved elsewhere. In 1957, these problems were resolved and film production resumed.
