Background: Phoenix Pictures is a production company that was founded in 1995. Mike Medavoy, the company's founder, was formerly the CEO of TriStar Pictures; before that, he worked at United Artists, and was one of the UA defectives that helped launch Orion Pictures.

Logo: On a black background, a hand holds up a lit match, which brings forth a morning skyline background. We fade to a black screen with two flames which resembles a phoenix bird, as "PHOENIX PICTURES" forms below with "PICTURES" in spaced-out letters inside the orange rectangular box under "PHOENIX". A light shines behind the logo and the logo fades out (except for the bird, which turns into an outline before fading away).
Variants:
- At the end of License to Wed and Shutter Island, as well as the trailer for Miss Potter, a still version is shown.
- At the end of Miss Potter, the horizontal print logo is used.
FX/SFX: The sky, the flame (the match is live-action).
Music/Sounds: The striking of a match followed by a relatively uninspired fanfare.
Music/Sounds Variants:
- Sometimes, the opening theme plays over it with the match sound intact.
- The print logo has the closing theme playing over it.
- On What to Expect When You're Expecting, the match sound plays which segues into short choir. When the logo is almost in position, the competition-show-within-the-movie starts playing with the audience cheering, leading into the opening scene.
Availability: Premiered on The Mirror Has Two Faces, and can also be seen on Dick, The People vs. Larry Flint, U-Turn, Apt Pupil, Mad About Mambo, the Urban Legend films (Urban Legend and Urban Legends: Final Cut), The Thin Red Line, The 6th Day, Lake Placid, Basic, and All the King's Men. However, it doesn't appear on Black Swan and Zodiac (though the movie posters and DVD covers do have the print logo).
