Background[]
Paws, Incorporated is a comic production company and studio founded by Jim Davis, the creator of the Garfield comics and franchise, in 1981 in Muncie, Indiana. In 2019, it was acquired by Viacom (now known as Paramount Global) and placed under its Nickelodeon brand. Paws is currently based in Paramount's headquarters in the Manhattan borough of New York City, New York, though Davis still continues to draw the comic strips in Indiana for newspapers and Andrews McMeel Syndication.
1st Logo (2000, October 1, 2007-June 28, 2011, December 6, 2019-June 17, 2020)[]
Logo: There are two variants:
- Opening: There is a purple circle with an orange stylized pawprint on it (comprised of five diagonally rotated ovals) and the words "PAWS INCORPORATED" next to it. The circle flips around to reveal the other side, which has a violet outline and a light blue gradient backdrop, and Garfield and Odie pop up inside it, standing side by side with their arms crossed. The word "presents" fades in below the logo. Everything takes place on a violet background with a wallpaper pattern of the pawprint.
- Closing: We start off on a black background with a light shining on top of a circle, which fades into the pawprint while the violet background fades in. The text slides out from under the circle as it moves to the left. Afterwards, the animation is the same as the opening variant, only "presents" is omitted, and after the fanfare stops, Garfield and Odie make funny faces.
Variants:
- On The Garfield Show and Garfield Originals, the logo is in-credit. Also in the former show's original test, the logo is on a clapper alongside the Dargaud Media logo.
- There is a variant where it just has the pawprint on a black or white background.
- A prototype variant appeared on its debut in Garfield's Mad About Cats. There are changes to the final closing variant in the prototype version:
- The background is black.
- The company name is orange and in the Garfield font.
- The inside of the circle is fully white.
- Copyright information is sometimes seen below.
FX/SFX: Flash animation.
Music/Sounds: The opening theme from the movie. At the end of any film, a triumphant fanfare plays, along with cartoon style laughs and whoops, a rimshot and a squeak/honk. On the prototype version and Dingleball.com, a different fanfare plays, but the sounds are retained.
Music/Sounds Trivia: One of the sound effects used, "Ha ha ha haaa!" in the closing variant was also used in the Garfield Adobe Flash game, Bean Me, just as Garfield (who got crazy for drinking lots of different kinds of coffee) is about to drink the 'Blaster Blend', the last coffee in the list. The sound is called "Hollywoodedge, Crazy Man Laughs CRT023101". Another sound, called "Hollywoodedge, Crazy Man Laughing 2 CRT023201", is used for the honk.
Music/Sounds Variant: On Spanish theatrical prints and the Blu-ray 3D release of Garfield's Pet Force, the opening theme, closing variant as well as the whole film are low-pitched, most likely due to the distributor intending to present the film in its original NTSC pitch on PAL releases. This also applies to the Catalan and English dubs on the Blu-ray 3D release.
Availability: It debuted on software including the PC game Garfield's Mad About Cats and was later seen on Garfield Gets Real, Garfield's Fun Fest, Garfield's Pet Force, the first two seasons of The Garfield Show and its original test (along with the Dargaud Media logo), and Garfield Originals. It could also be seen when you entered dingleball.com (Domain is now parked) and on The Wild World of Garfield as a print logo. The pawprint-only variant appears on Garfield's Nightmare and Garfield's Fun Fest for the DS, and it also appeared on garfield.com prior to 2019 (Domain now redirects to nick.com).
2nd Logo (September 4, 2012-October 24, 2016)[]
Logo: On the end credits, Odie and Garfield are shown in the same pose as before in front of an indigo rectangle. The black text "PAWS, INCORPORATED" is seen below in Cooper Black.
FX/SFX: A still, digital graphic.
Music/Sounds: Just the end theme of the show.
Availability: Seen on The Garfield Show from seasons 3 and 4, as well as the series finale "Rodent Rebellion".
