Background[]

Palm Pictures, formerly known as "Island Digital Media" (as seen on the original DVD release of Ghost in the Shell), is an entertainment company owned by Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records. The name was originally used as the copyright holder for Island Pictures, as seen on early video releases of The Basketball Diaries. It primarily focuses on releasing DVDs in the genres of arthouse, music, documentary, and sometimes drama.

1st Logo (October 10, 1997-1999)[]

Palm Pictures (1999) (From - Second Sight Blu-ray of 1999 reissue of Stop Making Sense)

Logo: We see white fog moving from the left to the right of the screen. Then, a crudely-drawn picture of a tree with a yellow sun near it slowly reveals itself from the fog. As the fog clears up, "PALM PICTURES" appears below.

Variant: On The Cup, the tree has a darker tint while the logo is horizontal, with "PRESENTS" below "PALM PICTURES".

FX/SFX: 2D animation. None for The Cup variant.

Music/Sounds: A peaceful, tropical synth piano theme accompanied by some male and female voices, along with some light beats. Sometimes, it uses the opening theme of the feature.

Availability: Seen on older DVDs from Palm Pictures, such as Six-String Samurai and Ghost in the Shell. It can also be seen on the current US Blu-ray of Stop Making Sense before the Clinica Estetico logo.

2nd Logo (1999-2003)[]

Logo: On a black background, we see a thick white line that glows into a rainbow bar. Suddenly, a light comes from the left side of the line, moves quickly into right side of the line, and then lightens the whole screen. "PALM PICTURES" in a different font appears right after the lightening.

Variant: A still version appears on earlier releases.

FX/SFX: CGI.

Music/Sounds: A deep, dark ambient sound, followed by a loud laser zap and a bang, then a sustained fade-out.

Music/Sounds Variant: The early version has the same music as the last logo.

Availability: The original version can be seen on films from the company starting with Lockdown. The early variant can be seen on Black & White, among other pre-Lockdown films.

3rd Logo (October 28, 2003-2010)[]

Palm Pictures (2004) (Credit - ifrequire)

Logo: We see the thick line from the previous logo, but this time it splits up into some colorful glass squares, which later join in a horizontal shape, revealing "PALM" from the squares. Then, it zooms out quickly, and the logo shines and gains lighter color shades (via wipe), which reveals "PICTURES" on the right bottom side of the logo. Then the letters blur out, leaving the squares which blurs out later and flickers.

FX/SFX: CGI.

Music/Sounds: A series of dark, crystallized chimes.

Availability: Seen on pre-2010 releases from the company, such as The Directors Label: The Works of Chris Cunningham.
