Background[]

In 1972, singer/songwriter Harry Nilsson and animation producers Murakami & Fred Wolf collaborated to create the ABC Movie of the Week The Point, which is based on Nilsson's original fable.

Logo:

  • Opening: We fade from black to the white background with the shade of light blue at the to. In the center, the purple dot appears and spreads, expands and zooms to reveal two companies:

NILSSON HOUSE MUSIC INC.
MURAKAMI WOLF PRODUCTIONS INC.

After the while, the words zoom out and reverts back to the dot, which the arises come out from the dot and expands to the top for the opening title sequence, in which the camera pans up.

  • Closing: We see the following purple text:

A PRODUCTION OF

NILSSON HOUSE MUSIC INC.

MURAKAMI WOLF
PRODUCTIONS
INC.

with the first line bigger and the rest is smaller.

Trivia: On the opening logo, when you slow down during the zooming in, the text changes at three points. One was:

NILSSON HOUSE MUSIC INCOM.
MADE JUST FOR THE MONEY INCAS.

The second was:

NILSSON SINGS GOOD SONGS INC.
MURAKAMI WOLF FILMS INCAS.

The third (Final) was:

HARRYHARRYHARRYHARRYHARRY
FREDFREDFREDFREDFREDFREDFRED

FX/SFX: The zooming text for the opening. The fading from the credits and to black for the closing.

Music/Sounds: "Are You Sleeping?", performed specifically for the movie by Nilsson.

Availability: Extremely rare. It was only seen on The Point, and is intact on home video releases.
