Background: Lionsgate Home Entertainment is the home video distribution arm of Lionsgate Films. Before its formation, Lionsgate's projects were distributed by MCA/Universal Home Video (in the United States) and Columbia TriStar Home Video (in Canada) up until 2001. At first most of their releases were only released by them in Canada. They have also distributed material by HiT Entertainment (2008-14) and A24 (2013-24).
1st Logo[]
(1997-Early 2004)

Nickname: "The Constellation"
Logo: Same as its film counterpart from 1998, but "HOME ENTERTAINMENT" is added below the line.
FX/SFX/Music/Sounds: Same as its film counterpart.
Music/Sounds Variant: On reprints of Stickin' Around tapes, it uses the music from the Avalanche Home Entertainment logo for some bizarre reason.
Availability: Uncommon.
- Appears on mainly Canadian DVDs (and some U.S. releases as well) of Lionsgate material (this does appear on VHS too) such as Strictly Ballroom, Breakin' the Law, the first two seasons of The Dead Zone, Comic Book Villains, and Durango Kids.
- It makes strange appearances on the 2001 Platinum Disc DVDs of American Eagle and Merchants of War.
- All DIC Entertainment DVD releases distributed by the company use this logo, with the VHS versions using the 3rd logo.
- This was also seen on the 2003 DVDs of The Red Violin and The Long Ride Home, as well as during a trailer for Wind River.
2nd Logo[]
(August 28, 2001-June 14, 2004)

Nickname: "The Constellation II"
Logo: Same as the 1997 movie logo, except "FILMS" is replaced by "HOME ENTERTAINMENT" and "PRESENTS" is replaced by "A LIONS GATE ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY". Another difference is that all the text fades in at the same time.
FX/SFX: Same as the 1997 movie logo.
Music/Sounds: Same as the first logo.
Music/Sounds Variant: A silent version exists.
Availability: Extremely rare.
- Mostly known to appear on the Sabrina: The Animated Series tapes "Sabrina in Love" and "Salem's World" as well as Mummies Alive!, all of which came out on the same day (the DVD counterparts, "Sabrina's World" in the case of Sabrina, used the next logo). The silent version appears on the DVD of Lost and Delirious, right at the beginning of the movie.
- It also appeared on the 2003-04 DVDs of Cement, Quicksand (even though their packages had Artisan Entertainment logos, in a similar situation to the 2003 Special Edition of King of New York carrying Artisan logos on the disc labels), and Man-Thing.
Editor's Note: Same as the 1997 movie logo.
3rd Logo[]
(October 9, 2001-May 30, 2006)
Nickname: "The Constellation III"
Logo: On a black background, the words "LIONS GATE HOME ENTERTAINMENT" fly in one by one away from the viewer, with stars moving into place illuminating the Lionsgate lion constellation next to the text. After that the byline "A LIONS GATE ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY" fades in below and the logo shines. The finished product looks similar to the previous logo.
Variants:
- On a promo for the Mr. Bill Collection, the titular character is thrown onto the center of the fully-formed logo and falls.
- On trailers for The Dead Zone, Irréversible, and May, a sped-up version of the logo plays.
- On a home video trailer for Secretary, the logo inches its way up from the bottom of the screen, like it's a piece of paper being inserted through a typewriter.
- On a trailer for Ju-On: The Grudge, the logo starts at the second half.
- On the 2004 DVD of Shattered Glass, when starting the movie, the logo is stretched into a 16:9 ratio. This is most likely a case of plastering the Lions Gate Films logo it originally opened with, even though the LGHE logo is in a 1.85:1 presentation (the movie is framed at 2.35:1).
- On a trailer for Grizzly Man as seen on the 2006 DVD of Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man, this logo plasters the original trailer's Lions Gate Films logo, which can briefly be seen underneath.
FX/SFX: 2D graphics.
Music/Sounds: A very loud whooshing sound, as well as sparkles and a warbling gong-esque synth track.
Music/Sounds Variants:
- Sometimes, like on most instances of the sped-up version, it's silent.
- On Target and Barnes & Noble exclusives from 2004-2006, the 1997 Lionsgate Films music is used instead.
- On DVDs included with Care Bears toys from Play Along, a twinkle is heard on the short version.
Availability: Common.
- Appears on Lions Gate Home Entertainment releases from the era, such as Bruiser (the first known title to use it), the first two Saw movies, Hail Caesar, some Republic Pictures titles such as Force of Evil, Long Day's Journey Into Night, and High School Confidential, seasons 1 and 2 of ALF, the Ultimate Editions of the first three Rambo movies, the Special Editions of Air America, Highlander 2, Stir of Echoes, Universal Soldier and Red Heat, Lil' Pimp, Beyond the Sea, The Devil's Rejects, Crash, The Punisher, and volumes 2-4 of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, among others.
- You can also find this logo on a couple of Clifford the Big Red Dog/Clifford's Puppy Days releases from 2004-2005, as well as the 2006 DVDs of The New Baby on the Block and The Perfect Pet.
- It appears on DIC Home Entertainment VHS releases from 2001-2002, such as Madeline Manners, Madeline's Halloween Spooktacular, Madeline's Sing-a-Long, Jingle Bell Rock, Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas, Sonic Christmas Blast, Madeline at the North Pole, Secret of Action Man and Action Man in Space. On Lions Gate's first three DIC titles (the Sabrina and Mummies Alive! ones), the previous logo is used on VHS, and the DVD counterparts all use the first logo.
- Makes a surprise appearance on the Jakks Pacific one-episode disc of the SpongeBob Squarepants episode "Hall Monitor" if you look up the disc's files.
- The last DVDs to use this logo were ALF Animated Adventures: 20,000 Years in Driving School and ALF Tales: Jack and the Beanstalk.
Editor's Note: Although the logo looks very elegant, its sudden appearance and the very loud whooshing (which almost sounds like a ghost breathing) can very well scare anyone. Those who are easily scared cannot stand this logo.
Final Note: Since Lionsgate changed their logo in 2006, they have since used their standard logo as a de-facto home video logo.
