Closing Logo Group

Background: KWSU is the PBS station affiliate located in Pullman, Washington, owned and operated by Washington State University.

1st (known) Logo

(1976-1994)

Nicknames: "Static Squiggly Lines", "CWSU", "CUSU", "CWJU", "CUJU", "KWSU From Hell", "Flashy Public Television"

Logo: We see some purple and blue squiggly lines on a dark background. The blue lines appear as more of a liquid substance when the logo forms. All of a sudden, they form the letters "KWSU" in a pink Stop font, the same font used in the 1984 Maryland Public Television logo. After that, the word "presents" in Heliotrope fades in. Finally, they squeeze themselves into the black background.

FX/SFX: The lines forming, the fading, and the squeezing.

Music/Sounds: A weird synthesized tune, which sounds like a error in a arcade game or something from the 70s.

Availability: Rare. Seen on programs at the time, most famously the videotaped edition of The Second Ending, featuring Heart, live at their studio.

Editor's Note: Despite being a rather cool logo, its broken nature is laughable.

2nd Logo

(1994-1995?)

Logo: This logo is also difficult to describe, but from what we know, this is how the animation goes-- on a brownish-purple (gradient?) background, we see "KWSU" colored red sliding in from the right, and "Presentation" flipping up, and then the logo fades out.

FX/SFX: The sliding in of the logo.

Music/Sounds: A synth-guitar tune.

Availability: On Susan Schewee's painting shows, followed by the American Public Television.

Editor's Note: This is tamer than the previous logo.
