Background[]

Golden Princess Film Production was a Hong Kong production company and film distributor set up by Golden Princess Amusement Co. Ltd. It produced several acclaimed films including The Killer, Peking Opera Blues, and Full Contact. With the decline of Hong Kong film market in mid-1990s, Golden Princess eventually withdrew from the cinema operation, film distribution and production businesses. Its last film was Peace Hotel in 1995, which was also Chow Yun Fat's last pre-Hollywood film. Its films were acquired by Star TV, who placed them into its Fortune Star division. In 2025, the library changed hands again, this time to Shout! Factory.

1st Logo (February 13, 1988-1990?)[]

Logo: On an orange background, there is a GP design, which consists of a mirrored P design with the left side having a G and a triangle cutout on the top and the screen zooms out from it, revealing more GP designs. Then, a giant, golden GP flips and zooms out to its position. Finally, "GOLDEN PRINCESS FILM PRODUCTION LIMITED", in Cantonese and English appears (via the flash).

FX/SFX: CGI.

Music/Sounds: A triumphant fanfare, excerpted from the main title theme of The Final Countdown (composed by John Scott).

Availability: Extremely rare. So far, this was only seen on the trailer of Roboforce (AKA I Love Maria).

2nd Logo (1990?-April 12, 1995)[]

Logo: On a gold liquid wall, a mirrored "GP" structure rises from the background and zooms forward . The flying structure leaves a trail and then zooms backwards while we see blue filmstrip floors slide upwards. Then the filmstrip background stops, and the "GP" zooms upwards along with the words "GOLDEN PRINCESS FILM PRODUCTION LIMITED" in Cantonese and English.

FX/SFX: CGI.

Music/Sounds: A majestic synth fanfare ending with a dramatic (and quite unfitting) two-note sting.

Music/Sounds Variants:

  • On the English track on the Dragon Dynasty DVD and BD of The Killer, and the French releases of A Chinese Ghost Story II and III, it uses the fanfare from the 2nd Cinema City Co. logo. This could be due to a sloppy reverse-plastering job.
  • On the Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment DVD of Once a Thief, it is silent.

Availability: Uncommon. Titles that have this include a few John Woo films (The Killer, Hard Boiled, Once a Thief), Treasure Hunt, Full Contact, A Chinese Ghost Story II and III, and The Swordsman trilogy. This is sometimes removed or plastered over with the Media Asia logos, but is usually preceded with other companies' idents on their prints.
