Closing Logo Group

Not to be confused with Focus Features.

Background[]

Focus Films Limited (originally TeamWork Production House Limited, later TeamWork Motion Pictures Limited) was a film production company founded in 1991 by Andy Lau. The company was produced many works like Saviour of the Soul and Made in Hong Kong, among others. The company was renamed to its current name in 2003.

TeamWork Motion Pictures Limited[]

1st Logo (December 19, 1991-December 31, 1998)[]

Logo: On a dodger blue cloudy background, there is a teal marble stairway (ala the opening of Festival de Cannes), which turns and ascends at the camera. Once the camera gets to the top, a stylized "T", a vertical stripe with two stacked horizontal lines on either side, rises up from the top step and faces the camera. While that happens is "TEAM" and "WORK" with "PRODUCTION HOUSE LIMITED" in a Century Schoolbook font with "T", "W", "P", "H" and "L" larger than the rest of the text, fades in. Then, the Cantonese translation, which is in pink, fades in below the logo when everything faces the screen. The shining on the "T" stops as the logo stays for a couple seconds before fading out.

Variants:

  • There is a variant where the camera then rotates at first before fixing itself and the logo plays as normal.
  • A deteriorated version has been spotted on the Thai dub of Saviour of the Soul I.

FX/SFX: CGI.

Music/Sounds: A repeating twelve-note Moog synth tune with a synth brass fanfare, ending with an orchestral hit when the logo turns. The second theme used an eighteen-note arpeggio sounder, which then segues a slow two-note in the theme.

Availability: Seen on some TeamWork Production House films, like Saviour of the Soul I and II, Tian Di, The Moon Warriors and Game Kids (also known as Game Boy Kids). The other variant was found on the Nontanund print of Saviour of the Soul I and Never Ending Summer.

2nd Logo (December 21, 2000-May 8, 2003)[]

Center

Logo: The logo starts with blocks moving on a space background from an aerial view, in which an orange C-shaped block is seen driving over on black field. The block then "connects" twice, then more blocks connect twice on the screen, revealing the black background and then form "teamWork" in a pixelated futuristic font, which then flashes and dies. The logo then zooms and then "blurs" twice, which then zooms out to reveal the logo. "MOTION PICTURES LIMITED" appears via moving letters.

FX/SFX: CGI.

Music/Sounds: A descending square-wave bass, then a whoosh, reverberant clangs are heard when the logo forms, and loud "whooshes" are heard before the blur effect, and then time-stretched wind noises are heard again on the logo.

Availability: Seen on films before the company went renamed, from A Fighter's Blues until Give Them a Chance.

Focus Films Limited[]

(April 29, 2004?-)[]

Logo: The camera pans up from a grassland to reveal the words "FOCUSFILMS" printed on it. The company name, written in Chinese and English respectively, fades in below. The grassland then fades out, as "FOCUSFILMS", in white, fades in from the shot.

FX/SFX: CGI.

Music/Sounds: A relaxing synth tune followed by grass sounds, with a ping at the end.

Availability: Known to appear on most of the company's output during the 2000s, beginning with Jiang Hu. It also appears in other films they've distributed, including a recent print of Made in Hong Kong (1997).
