Background[]
Dark Universe was the name for Universal's attempt at making a cinematic universe based around their classic monsters, in a similar vein to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first (and likely, only) film in the franchise was the 2017 remake of The Mummy, which received negative reviews from critics and bombed at the box office. After that film's failure, the project was put on an indefinite hiatus, with further films in the universe cancelled.
(May 22, 2017)[]
Logo: Continuing on from the 2012 Universal Pictures logo, but after it finishes and the Comcast byline fades in and in 3D, we zoom in to the left side of the earth and past the word "UNIVERSAL". We then see the Earth is completely black and surrounded by an eerie red glow, as the words “DARK UNIVERSE”, in a spiky font, appear over the Earth in a similar manner to the normal Universal logo, only mirrored. The text shines, and after a few seconds, it cuts to black.
FX/SFX: All CGI animation.
Music/Sounds: Continuing on from the Universal theme, a dramatic orchestral fanfare composed by Danny Elfman.
Availability: Seen only on the 2017 version of The Mummy.
Editor's Note: A good effort for a darker take on the Universal globe.
